The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.
Replay technology will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Players are granted the right to challenge certain decisions from the official, following the protocol already in use at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Competitors will not be permitted to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to ask for the umpire to re-examine specific situations, such as:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person on the way past.
- Potential interference at the conclusion of a rally.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the amount of reviews a player can initiate.
A Recent Example
A recent incident took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player admitted it was a tough situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and determined Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the rally to Medvedev.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews aren't new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit plans to have video reviews in place at all of its events.
Additional Innovations
Another change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses situations where fans have occasionally been unsure if a shot was out or in.
Finally, with exactly a century of days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
